    No, MIchael, Macs do NOT get viruses (except when running Windows). A virus is something very specific, and far more dangerous than other forms of malware. When Macs DID get viruses, in the OS 8 and OS 9 days, Apple included antivirus software with the machines. Macs, like ANY computer, are vulnerable to phishing scams and trojans like MacDefender. This has always been the case, there is nothing new here. The malware makers have gotten good enough that they are no longer telling you that your version of Windows is infected, but that is the only difference. The publicity given to this sort of thing every few months is an attempt by antivirus software makers to get people to buy their software, which is not very useful against phishing or trojans. Lumping them together as malware is about as hoinest as putting nuclear weapons and mustard gas together as “weapons of mass destruction”.
