Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery (SBS&S) is a point and click adventure game for the iPad that is the first must have game for the handheld device. This game is the killer app for the iPad (or the iphone as it was recently released for that as well) and it literally kicks it “old school” with the games visuals and music. I spy a must have game that will change the way you perceive gaming on the iPad. The game looks like it’s straight out of the 8 bit era with a tad more polish to it. Don’t let the graphics fool you because the more you play the more the game beauty takes over and you start to see how compelling the visual are. The game put you in control of a Scythian who is hired to complete a “task”… not saying any more… it’s that good. Saying too much about the plot would only spoil it for you. The way the game unfolds and how the story is told is so unique and innovating…. that you have to play it for yourself in order to fully grasp the magnitude of how amazing this game really is. I know that’s a lot of flub about a game but trust me I could sit here and write every good cliché in the book and they would all apply to this game.
With SBS&S you have a solid point and click adventure game with probably the BEST music I’ve heard in a video game in years. The soundtrack really makes the game a truly special experience. The soundtrack is so good that only after playing the game for an hour or so I immediately went to iTunes and purchase the soundtrack. I don’t think that I’ve done that since Jet Set Radio. The game is a hybrid experience between the point and click adventure and the music. Usually it’s the story that drives you to continue playing but in SBS&S it’s the music.
The one minor complaint that I have with the game are the games controls. Being a point and click adventure game there were times when the controls lack accuracy and can lead to some un-necessary deaths. Maybe that’s just user error but I had a bit of an issue with the touch controls and occasionally with the combat (which is another unique experience).
If you own an iPad just spend the 5 bones on this game and thank me later.
